Good Day I just wanted to let you know that we were really disappointed in our overnight stay at Merino Inn in Colesberg this time around. While the main building reception, lounge, bar & dining areas are nice, and I am sure that the luxury rooms are much better than the standard rooms, I still feel that when paying R550 per night one could expect a little better. I understand that you are busy with alterations & improvements but perhaps then the rooms still awaiting the improvements should be hired out at a lesser amount. Our room D9 if I recall, had obviously not yet been renovated at all. Our main concern was our bed. The mattress was definitely in need of replacement, when one lay on the bed with the one pillow provided, ones feet were higher than one’s head. The middle of the bed is obviously no longer able to withstand the weight after many nights support of various people. Unfortunately because of this, we carried on our long trip without being properly rested the next morning. The actual bed-spread or cover also had a large light coloured stain or decolouration. Our bath was also although clean, in need of re-enamelling, it really did not give a nice impression. There is a lot of other places in Colesberg offering over-night accommodation at various rates, some cheaper that Merino and some more expensive. However you are very conveniently situated for tired travellers and as we have stayed there previously we just decided to not look any further as we believed that we would get cleanliness & a good night’s rest which is really all we ask. On our trips we normally stay over in Colesberg and also Beaufort West. I must say that in Beaufort West this year we stayed at the Royal Lodge which is also being renovated in stages, but although the furnishings were not luxurious we had a wonderful queen bed that was firm and comfortable. The price there was, incidentally, R495 per night. The room was probably of a similar size to yours, but they also had a really spacious bathroom and even a patio with some very basic chairs & a table. They also had tea & coffee facilities, etc. Kind Regards Karen Snooke

Good day,
I made some pictures of hotel Merino Inn in Colesberg yesterday late night, I was already totally shocked yesterday but did not have the energy to complain anymore please read this and look at the pictures
I did drive in 30 hours from Pretoria to Capetown and back and could not stay awake any longer so I asked my girlfriend if she could book a AA and TSGSA assinged hotel and this was the result...
I woke up throwing up from the sewage smell my throat was sore and my nose was blocked and I did not know how fast I had to run away there, did not pay a single cent was very upset.
Food was absolutely bad no words for that , could not eat it at all... I ordered a french union soup with cheese and got a cheese souse with raw unions, my colleaugue ordered a seafood salad and got a small cup with tuna and mayo the menu itself is made from paper wrapped in plastic totally rediculous
Please look at these pictures and let me know if this is the " high" standards for AA and TSGSA 3 star grading. ( i think it is a total embarrassment for the industrie but especially to the assesors who approve these kind of discusting things)
If these are the standards that the Hotels have to comply to please let me know and I take it further to hello Peter.
On their website they are talking about a nice and clean place...
Will take this further to the department of health and to the department of tourism and see if they are happy with these kind of places.
I talked to the manager to explain why I did not pay and asked him to check the room and let me know what he thought about it, he told me the room is totally up to standard and got very agry with me because I did not pay he told me he could not find anything at all.
Also he told me that he did not detect the stinking sewage smell..... this made me so angry because I could still taste the sewage in my mouth and throat so that and all the rest of my experience triggert me to report this Hotel to you.
This manager should stay very far away from guesthouses, hotels and the whole hospitality industrie.
I wonder if this hotel can keep their star grading
I look forward to your reply
Keep me informed.
Regards
